Ruzha Smilova
Political Research Program Director
Ruzha Smilova is the Program Director for “Political Research.” She also teaches History of Political Ideas and Contemporary Political Theory in the Department of Political Science at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.”
She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Central European University in Budapest, and specialized in political philosophy at Oxford University. She has been a visiting researcher at the Center for Academic Studies in Sofia and the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna (IWM).
Her research interests lie in the fields of democratic theory and practice; her recent academic publications are on topics such as illiberal alternatives to democracy, the ideology of illiberalism, challenges to democratic resilience, and various aspects of global processes of de-democratization.
