Prof. Ekaterina Mihaylova, Ph.D. is a lecturer of history of the state and law at the Department of Law and a member of the Board of Trustees of New Bulgarian University. In 2007, she was elected honorary professor at NBU for her contribution to the development of the theory and practice of the parliamentary state.
Prof. Mihaylova, Ph.D graduated in law from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" and began working as a lawyer. From 1991 to 2013, she was a member of parliament in the 36th, 37th, 38th, 39th, 40th, and 41st National Assemblies and was deputy chair of the 40th and 41st National Assemblies. She was chair and deputy chair of the parliamentary groups of the Union of Democratic Forces (SDS), the Democratic Forces Union (DSB), and the Union of Democratic Forces (ODS). She was chair of the United Christian Democratic Center (OHDC), deputy chair, secretary-general, and chair of the Union of Democratic Forces (SDS). Later, she was deputy chair of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria. In 2013, she became a member of the Pardon Commission to the President of the Republic, and since 2015, she has been a member of the Consultative Constitutional Council to the Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria.
She is the author of the monographs Parliamentarism and the Rule of Law in Bulgaria, The Role
of the Head of State in the Legislative Process. An Overview of Bulgarian Constitutional Models, The Totalitarian State and Law in Bulgaria 1944-1989, as well as many articles in scientific publications. She actively participates in public debate with publications and interviews in print and electronic media.
