The Centre for Liberal Strategies (Sofia) in cooperation with the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy (Moscow) and the Higher School of Economics (Moscow) held an international conference Russia through the Eyes of Young European Leaders in Moscow on 11-13 March 2019.
The profound transformation of the world order that we have seen recently is accompanied by an important process - a generational change in political communities in both Europe and Russia. In this new political context, the EU has no clear idea of the experience and ideas of the new generation of Russian experts. This lack of clarity is exacerbated by the reduction in contact between European and Russian politicians, analysts and journalists since the Crimean crisis. This creates a serious danger of misunderstanding and misinterpretation of both Russian and European policies.
The international conference aimed to bring together a diverse group of young European and Russian leaders to discuss current Russian policies, how they see the relationship between Russia and the EU, to exchange ideas and policy choices for the future.
The participation of young Western leaders in the international conference was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Robert Bosch Foundation.
During the event, a diverse group of young leaders from the European Union and Russia took part in a
1) A series of informal meetings with state and public figures from Russia
2) A one-day intensive seminar with experts from Russia
3) A political simulation game "Vaccination against chaos: learning to avoid unpleasant surprises in international politics", based on a scenario of an acute international crisis.
